INTRODUCTION
Pursuant to Section 2 of Republic Act No. 7166, the next National and Local Elections is scheduled to be held on the second Monday of May 2013, which falls on May 13th. Pursuant further to Republic Act No. 10153, said elections will also be held simultaneously with the elections for the regional officials of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The COMELEC is now making preparations for an automated elections process pursuant to Republic Act No. 9369.
In this connection, the COMELEC has set the period for the resumption of the system of continuing registration within the following dates:

Those who are not yet registered voters and who wish to participate in this coming electoral exercise should make sure that they file their Applications for Registration within the corresponding periods stated above at the local COMELEC office in their respective places of residence.
Existing registered voters should make sure that their registration records have not been deactivated by failing to vote in two consecutive regular elections - e.g. the 2010 Barangay Elections, and the 2010 National and Local Elections. You may use the Precinct Finder facility in this website to verify the status of your registration. Deactivated voters may file an application for the reactivation of their registration records.
Applications for transfer of registration record (for those who have moved to another place of residence), for change of name (for those who have legally changed names, such as single female voters who got married), and for correction of entries (such as for a change of civil status, and other entries in the registration record) may also be applied for within the above-mentioned period.
Old registered voters who have not yet had their biometrics information digitally captured may file for an application for validation, which would enable their photographs, fingerprints and signatures taken using the Voter Registration Machine (VRM). DINENGDENG FESTIVAL FOSTERS BACKYARD GARDENS AGOO,
La Union: This pilgrimage town held its 8th “Dinengdeng Festival” on Tuesday with local cooks simultaneously whipping up various kinds of dinengdeng (vegetable) dishes at the grounds of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University, South La Union campus. Mayor Sandra Young Eriguel said that the festival’s goal was to promote Ilocano culture and showcase the agricultural products of Agoo, particularly fish and vegetable products. It also encourages vegetable backyard gardening. Agoo is bounded by some vegetable farmlands and seashore, equally teeming in seafood products. “The festival will also promote health awareness among residents and visitors and enhanced production of backyard vegetables like squash, eggplant, ampalaya, saluyot, okra, among others,” Eriguel said. Dinengdeng, a healthy Ilocano concoction is a nutritious viand of endemic vegetables cooked in aromatic bagoong (fish sauce), made more flavorful topped with grilled or fried fish.

REGIONS IN BRIEF

(ANL/MPA-PIA 1 La Union)
